What is calcium citrate?
Calcium citrate is calcium combined with citric acid. It is synthesized in a lab rather than mined from rock. It is only about 21% elemental calcium by weight, which means you need to take a larger serving, or more pills, to get the same amount of elemental calcium as carbonate.
Although calcium citrate is still synthetic calcium, it does not need stomach acid for absorption as does calcium carbonate. Which form absorbs better?
