May is National Osteoporosis Awareness and Prevention Month

May is National Osteoporosis Awareness and Prevention Month.  We at Seen are honoring this special month by putting out educational content and raising awareness - follow us @thecalciumqueens on Instagram to see our educational posts.

Just last week, we were in DC for ISO25, the Interdisciplinary Symposium on Osteoporosis, where experts from around the world gathered to talk about the future of bone health. I sat in rooms filled with physicians, dietitians, rehab specialists, and researchers who are working every day to prevent fractures and save lives. But what struck me most was how many conversations circled back to one thing: we're not catching this disease early enough.

Osteoporosis is called the “silent disease” for a reason. You don’t feel your bones thinning. You don’t see the warning signs. For many, the first symptom is a broken bone—and by then, it’s already too late. That’s why prevention matters so much. That’s why this month matters.

We are proud to support the BHOF’s programs in May for National Osteoporosis Awareness and Prevention Month.

At Seen Nutrition, we started our company because we saw a big problem. Women were told to take calcium, but the options were (and still are for the most part) kind of terrible. Pills. Sugary gummies. Chalky liquid supplements. So we created something else: a calcium chew made from real food. No synthetic additives. No fake flavors. Just milk minerals, dates, protein, and vitamin D from mushrooms—designed to support bone health in a way that actually fits into real life.

At ISO25, there was a panel on gut health and nutrient absorption that was music to my ears. Multiple speakers emphasized that synthetic calcium (like carbonate or citrate) just doesn’t absorb well. Our calcium chew? It’s food and calcium in one bite. Seeing the science back up and the conversation continue about what we’ve held true for years was so validating.

Another standout session was on movement and rehabilitation, with Rebekah Rotstein from Buff Bones and Kavita Patel. They talked about exercise not as a treatment, but as a lifestyle—something you do before the break, not just after. And that’s what National Osteoporosis Month is about too. It’s a reminder to move more, eat well, check your vitamin D, ask your doctor about a bone scan, and start caring for your bones before you feel the consequences.

Let’s all take a moment this month to remember, if you’ve got bones, you’ve got a reason to care. And if you’re a woman in midlife, this conversation is absolutely necessary about preventing osteoporosis and treating your bones well. We're trying to change that, one chew at a time.
